Survival Candle

Laughing Lichen’s beeswax survival candle is an essential piece of equipment for any outdoor activity. Carry it with you in all seasons for an emergency light and heat source. Living and working in remote regions of the north we have learned from experience to be prepared for roadside breakdowns or power outages!  This pure beeswax candle with a wooden wick is packaged in a hardy recyclable 8 ounce metal tin with a lid, which protects the candle from wind and rain. There is enough room to store a few matches inside the tin.

Our survival candle is not only great for the wilderness but also for enjoying at home. The pure fir essential oil in this candle will fill your interior with a subtle smell of coniferous forest. Furthermore enjoy the candlelight on a cozy evening on your deck, patio, balcony or in your garden. The FSC certified wooden wick offers a faint campfire like crackle as it burns.

Our candles are handmade in small batches at our “off-the-grid” wilderness facility located deep in the Northwest Territories boreal forest. Our facility is run using solar energy. Burn Time & Scent:

35 + hours!  This 8 oz. candle contains a wooden wick. Did you know that beeswax candles burn for longer than most standard paraffin and soy candles?

Our beeswax candles are free of chemicals, carcinogens and synthetic fragrances.  Have you ever opened the lid of a candle at a store and had a overwhelming experience?  We certainly have, that is why we only add a subtle amount of pure wild essential oils which are not overpowering, even in a smaller room. The natural honeylike fragrance of beeswax is completely natural. Our candles are crafted with 100% pure beeswax no soy, coconut oil or paraffin wax.

Other Candle Wax’s:

The most widely used type of candle wax is Paraffin, which also happens to be the lowest cost wax option.  Paraffin is a byproduct of the oil and gas industry and is refined from crude oil.  As for soy candles, the ethical practices of the industry are often called into play.  Deforestation, soy monocultures involving pesticides and fertilizers, are both contributing negatively to the environment.  The process of extracting the oil from the soy bean is energy intensive, and releases high amounts of VOC’s into the atmosphere. Beeswax candles are made with pure beeswax, a byproduct of honey production. It is natural, safe to burn and smells wonderful!
