Wild Nettle Benefits:
A staple among herbalists, wild stinging nettle is considered a classic “nutritive” herb, meaning it is very nutrient dense and nourishing. Organic Nettle tea contains high anti-oxidant levels as well as vitamins A and C, which help boost the immune system. Scientists discovered that nettle stimulates T-cells, which help the body fight infection and other diseases. It is also rich in minerals such as Calcium, Iron, Potassium and Magnesium. One recent study [1] found that 500 mL of tea made with 20 grams of dried nettle leaves, steeped for 30 minutes, contains 76 mg of magnesium, which represents about 20-25% of men’s and women’s daily requirement, respectively.
Steeping Time:
The study mentioned above shows how high levels of magnesium are extracted during a 30 minute steeping time, but one can extract even more nutrients by allowing for longer steeping times. The infusion could be covered and steeped for a few hours or up to ten, allowing it to come to room temperature before straining and refrigerating. The longer the steeping time allows for a more nutrient-dense tea, and gives a more soup broth flavor.
Wildcrafting Nettle :
Everything about nettle tea is delicious and nourishing. Harvested with care, the nettle we forage is rich, dark green, fragrant and grows wild far from pollutants or agriculture. Each spring, while young and fresh, it is carefully collected then shade dried for optimal nutrient content. Loose leaf herb for use as a tea, herb, food additive or for crafting your own infusions.
What Makes A Wildcrafted Herb Organic?
At Laughing Lichen we follow the Canadian Organic Standards which are defined here: https://inspection.canada.ca/organic-products/standards/eng/1300368619837/1300368673172. Section 7.6 of The Standard is specific to Wild Crops.
Wilderness Manufacturing:
All of our wild + organic teas are processed at our remote “off-the-grid” wilderness facility located deep in the Northwest Territories boreal forest. Our entire facility is run using solar energy. This ensures that the air drying of the collected herbs is done in a location far from any pollutants or contaminations. All of our harvesting locations are in pristine virgin forests (old-growth), as here in the Northwest Territories of Canada, there has been very little development or natural resource activity over the years.
